Our Journey

From humble beginnings

Hi there, I’m Laura Eddington from Gippsland.

It is so frustrating to open the fridge only to find brown avocados, slimy spinach, and floppy lettuce, which end up in the bin and sending you straight to the shops! Did you know that the average household puts well over $1000 worth of food waste in the bin each year? This contributes to a 20 billion dollar food wastage crisis to Australia's economy and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions! To make matters worse, did you know that for all the Australian students currently enrolled in k-12, the cling wrap on their sandwiches is enough to go around the earth almost 5 times! And this happens year after year!

I do not want to be a part of these problems. But at the same time, I’m busy I get it. We have chaotic lives to live, and convenience is king. We all drop our juggling balls from time to time and life, just... well, happens! I’m from camp guilt, it’s not a nice feeling contributing to these problems especially when you realise that often you don’t even think about it, despite full well knowing the decisions have long lasting negative impacts! Are my great, great, grandchildren going to be impacted by dealing with mess I leave behind? Are they going to be able to see the pristine wonders of the world the way I’ve been able to experience them? Do you also worry about the legacy of waste we are leaving behind?

I come from farming roots in Gippsland, renowned for its beautiful produce and landscapes. In my heart burns a deep passion for nature and sustainability, having studied ecology and seen the impacts of plastics on ecosystems. My late grandfather, a dairy farmer in Yarragon who worked to the age of 82, always said ‘do what you do and do it well’. Well, I think I’ve found what I do well and I’m making it my life’s work. Nothing is more rewarding than doing all the good I possibly can. Tackling these big problems is very close to my heart.

To rid myself of the guilt I felt by asking my husband to empty the kitchen bin every day he got home from work, I went out look for an alternative to cling wrap, one that would better preserve my food while being a convenient replacement, so hopefully the habit would stick! Unfortunately, there was a huge lack of quality wraps, and I had the frustration of investing in many that cracked flaked and simply did not cling. Why? I found out that not one maker has any relevant industry experience or skill sets to help them understand how and why they work and what really makes them work well.

So, while on maternity leave, with a newborn and 1.5 year old, I decided to make my own wraps drawing from my unique skill set, a background in science, food and agriculture. After 6 months of research, trial and error and many messes, the results were amazing even cut avocados were staying fresh for up to 2 weeks! I realised that I wanted to make a big difference and show people that...

  • firstly, wraps can work very well
  • secondly, they can be an easy swap and integrated as a lifetime habit
  • last but certainly not least, they allow you to feel good about the daily decisions you make knowing that every single day you are doing something that is kinder for our planet!

So, on my waxy kitchen bench in Gippsland, I launched Little Bumble in 2017, with no business experience but a sheer determination to make a difference.

With the full support and backing of the wonderful Gippsland community, and powerhouse of dedicated local worker bees, our passion fuelled bootstrapping adventure has been propelled and transformed into what it is today! I am proud to have developed a well-recognised, acclaimed, and unique formula that can keep cut avocados fresh for up to 2 weeks, cucumbers 3 weeks and even leafy greens and herbs 5 weeks! This is why Choice has mentioned Little Bumble as Food Wrap Stars and we are going above and beyond in solving the food storage crisis in Australia which currently wastes over 10 billion dollars of food annually! Not to mention, we get an absolute kick out of helping household break up with plastic!

We've created something very special that will help all households. It's always been focused on the purpose, the impact, the legacy we leave behind. If you find in the busyness of life, that you're striving for something better, something meaningful, something that brings joy, happiness and rids us of the regret of not doing better....we can help! Life's chaotic (especially these days!) and while we can't solve all of the world's problems, we CAN make it easy to work on one piece of the puzzle. Join us and make life more SIMPLE and SUSTAINABLE with Little Bumble reusable food wraps!

Happy Wrapping

"I like to envision the whole world as a jigsaw puzzle...If you look at the whole picture, it is overwhelming and terrifying, but if you work on your little part of the jigsaw and know that people all over the world are working on their little bits, that's what will give you hope."
